Surrogate Matrices Whitepaper

This whitepaper examines how the European Bioanalysis Forum is advocating for a shift in bioanalytical testing practices to reduce the need for animal-derived materials. Currently, blank matrices from preclinical animals are often used in testing, as required by regulatory guidelines. However, scientific research shows that using alternative, non-animal "surrogate" matrices could be equally effective. Through targeted experiments and ongoing discussions, the Forum is working to gather evidence and encourage regulatory bodies to adopt these more ethical, scientifically supported alternatives wherever possible. This change could lead to a more sustainable approach to bioanalysis, aligned with modern ethical standards.
